My Experience at Drayton Manor High School
I am enjoying my time as a student at Drayton Manor High School. The curriculum taught there is hugely informative, ingenious and engaging. I have learned lots of aspects, skills and information from my education, observations and personal experiences during my time in Drayton. I am hopeful that when the time comes I might be able to use those skills, information and experiences in my life.
The transition from Springhallow School to this unfamiliar, new mainstream school was difficult for me at first as I was worried about the reputation of my school, my grades and missing my familiar circumstances, routines, teachers and peers etc. The thought of integrating or becoming a permanent student at the new school was unnerving and way out of my comfort zone because I found it hard to leave the safe, familiar surroundings I was accustomed to. But all this acclimatization was successful because of the strong foundation that I had at Springhallow School.
Also, the transition to Drayton Manor from Springhallow happened slowly and over a period, with continuous support by my Springhallow teaching assistants. I was fortunate that my teaching assistants were continuously helping me through this transition, and I would find it very difficult even now without their presence. I am aware that all this happened with a lot of planning from my Springhallow teachers and supporting staff, who were aware of my strengths, weaknesses and readiness.
As time went by I gradually overcame my fears and started enjoying the lessons the teachers had to offer. My favourite subject is Spanish because I am interested in other cultures. I am also studying Mathematics, English Literature, Combined Science and Geography for GCSE. I am slightly behind on some of those subjects but I am progressing fast. The teachers at Drayton Manor are very encouraging and appreciate my effort which gives me inspiration to work hard. I am only doing Physical Education for pleasure.
I have 5 classes a day. Maintaining time management is not easy because I am often drawn back by densely populated areas in the school.
In my opinion Springhallow nurtured me so gently and inculcated good ethos, values and discipline. Those will stay with me for life. And Drayton Manor is giving me the exposure to real life situations and inspiration to achieve my potential to build my aspirations.
